A Playful Campaign for a Bad, Bad Brand

A Smart World Needs the Right Ingredients

Glencore is absolutely NOT popular in Switzerland. Like, at all. Nevertheless, they wanted a campaign that would make what they do ‘seen’ while giving their employees something to be proud of.

  • Glencore is a bogeyman in Switzerland (and, admittedly, the rest of the world). The mining company has been accused of sourcing its materials from illegal mines in the DRC and has been involved in several bribery and price manipulation conspiracies. I’m not a fan of Glencore, but I needed a job.
Glencore’s brief was to create a campaign that highlighted the materials they source and make employees proud to work at Glencore—easily said, not easily done.

  • Create a campaign that highlights the materials inside of everyday products playfully and accurately.

  • For the pitch, I developed a campaign focused on “Material Nutrition.” Our design language utilized the universally recognizable nutrition label to give consumers a peek into the materials that power our phones, laptops and other essentials.

  • SCRIPT

M-65, a humanoid robot, is hiking in the woods. The birds are chirping, and the sun shines through bright green leaves.

  • SCRIPT

M–65 takes a break and sits down on a rock. He reaches into his backpack and pulls out what looks like an energy bar.

Inside, there is a computer mouse. He lifts it up to his mouth and takes a bite.

    The mouse goes *crunch*
