THE WAYBACKPLAN
A Detox Challenge for Digital Dependants
“95% of young people aged 13-17 use social media, and over 1/3 report they use it almost constantly.”
— US Department of Health and Human Services.
Disconnect to Reconnect
It’s not a secret; we’re addicted to our phones. So let’s take it back to when phones were about quality connection, not quantity connection and see if Gen Z want’s to trade in their smartphone for a flip phone.
-
Digital dependency is causing a mental health crisis for just about anyone with access to a smartphone.
Those who experience social media addiction are much more likely to experience isolation and suffer from depression. -
Found a phone plan that values quality connection over a quantity of connection and positions Swisscom as the brand that cares about mental health in the Swiss market.
-
Swisscom’s plan will challenge digitally addicted youth to put down their smartphones in favor of tech from the early 2000s, like the classic flip phone. Newly retrofitted Swisscom locations will allow people to trade in their smartphones for flip phones for as long as they’d like.
The longer the trade, the more points players will earn towards rewards like travel passes, festival tickets, and more.
A microsite will be launched to track points and offer guidance on dealing with social media addiction, while a social media campaign will call on young people to take on Swisscom’s new challenge.
But, to launch the Wayback Plan, Swisscom will announce the creation of the first national day for mental health awareness in Switzerland.
